Health Benefits of Blueberries

Health Benefits of Blueberries

Blueberries are popping up in season all over Lebanon now and, as I am putting them into everything from smoothies to crisps as well as popping them into my mouth by the handful, I was really thrilled to find this infographic about just the punch these little beauties pack.

One of the most surprising benefits is the ability to prevent UTIs (urinary tract infections) and foster urinary tract health as good or better than cranberries.  This is good news for those suffering from interstitial cystitis as well as those prone to chronic urinary tract or yeast infections.

Off to make blueberry cobbler!

Blueberries are one of my favorite berries. I still have some frozen ones that I picked when they were last in season here…but my stock is getting low!

No there, I had two misscarriages so I went to see dr phil boyle and he put me on high doses of bit d, vit c, alpha lipoic and a prenatal multivitamin also naltrezone thd first month my progesterone was 42.8 and my oestradial was 380 but this month my oestradial has gone up to 590 and my progesterone has gone down to 31.1 I wonder why the progesterone has dropped. I now eat porridge for breakfast Ouse to eat wheatabix , I am not eating as many spuds as I felt they made me feel lethargic afterwards so now I’m eating cous cous some days, sweet potato other days or brown rice. I am also eating spelt bread do u think the change in diet has raised the oestradial or mayb the vitamins thank you for your help . Noreen

Noreen, I would really suggest, because you need help with that estrogen level as well as your progesterone ratio, you schedule a consultation with me. I can think of about 5 different things I would be doing differently and there are probably 20 more easy fixes to help your estrogen go on a downward spiral!

Porridge is all carbs for breakfast when your body still needs the protein for breakfast and lunch to detox estrogen. You know, in all those supplements, there are many fillers. Some of them are just downright estrogenic. I question MANY of them anyway. You are eating too many grains, too much fiber, the wrong kind of diet, and you aren’t eating potatoes (which I disagree was the REASON you were lethargic. Probably HOW you were eating them). Brown rice is too high in fiber for estrogen dominant women as well. There are MANY reasons your estrogen could be spiking and diet is definitely one of them!

Hi again, thank you for your quick reply what do u suggest I should eat for breakfast sometimes I was having porridge and then an egg a little later. I haven’t eaten brown rice in a long time. I know bread bloats me but the spelt bread is good. I eat quite a bit of fruit during the day mostly apples and oranges and sometimes a banana. I take it u dont need high oestradial in pregnancy although he does like it at 600+. I was wondering where you are and what price per consultation. I am out quite a bit at the minute with dr boyle and the charting last and my meds. But I would consider you if it was not too high. Thank you

I wouldn’t eat your porridge unless it is WITH protein because those are straight carbs (which the body does not want in the morning). Also, are you soaking your porridge? A LOT of phytates in oats. If you are eating apples and oranges raw and with pulp you are feeding your body pectin and pulp which is feeding bacteria and not digestible. I suggest strained OJ with salt. Your doctor has you on too much to hope you are going to really lower your estradiol. Sorry to tell you. You need high progesterone in pregnancy and yes, estradiol can be high in pregnancy which causes a slew of negative side effects but if you have high estrogen it can be difficult if not impossible to GET pregnant. I do Skype consultations at $150 for 90 minutes for the first consultation. You will have to fill out an intake form and provide food journals (truthful ones) and you have to be willing to understand that doctors don’t always have all the answers especially when it comes to supplements in pill form that could actually be contributing to high estrogen!

Oj Wish is meant to read OJ WITH… I edited that. Your doctor and I are far away from how we treat estrogen dominance. I am afraid I can’t really offer many more suggestions simply because his methods are so contrary to my own. I would soak the oats and I recommend overnight. There is so much more going on than even your doctor is helping you understand though. I wish that were not the case but it seems to be. It’s not WHAT fruits you are eating, more like how you are eating. (Luckily there are tons of articles on how to make this work for you.) You aren’t doing everything wrong, just think you might be getting the combinations wrong and taking WAY too many supplements.

Hi , sorry just one more thing is orange juice not full of sugar. I’m supposed to take as little as possible sugar or do u mean squeeze the oranges for ok.
I guess the high dose if vitamin d would lower my progesterone. Thank you for all your help I don’t have much time to think of soaking oats every day but I will try my best if it helps. Noreen

I don’t know who would tell you to take “as little sugar as possible” but it is really nicely balanced between glucose and fructose and pro-metabolic (and why would you want to lower your progesterone?) and anti-inflammatory. Both of these are amazing for when you have estrogen dominance. Fresh squeezed and strained, yes. With a pinch of sea salt. Also, if you have three minutes at night, it’s easy to figure out how to soak oats overnight. But oats should not be a huge part of your diet anyway.

My doctor told me not to eat sugary things to try and balance my hormones so less sugar in things the better. He is one of the top fertility doctors dr phil boyle.

          • thedetoxdiva says

I’m sorry, your doctor is misguided slightly unless he’s talking about REFINED sugars in the presence of refined flour. You do not have a hope of balancing your hormones without the proper amount of glucose, I’m sorry. Ripe fruits, maple syrup, and raw honey are a fertile woman’s best friend. Protein for breakfast is always a MUCH better idea than carbs. If you would like, we could have a consultation and discuss lifestyle adjustments as well as proper diet in order to achieve a high rate of fertility. Fertility doctors are often woefully misguided in nutrition.
